USA:s krig i Irak har bidragit till en ny våg av islamisk extremism och ökat det globala terrorhotet. Det fastslår amerikansk underrättelsetjänst i en hemligstämplad rapport, i bjärt kontrast till president George W Bushs påstående att världen har blivit säkrare.

It should be interesting to hear this touted as gospel throughout the election season even as the left simultaneously continues to ridicule past intelligence estimates which indicated that Saddam Hussein was trying to get the bomb before we invaded Iraq as well as current ones that show Iran on the cusp of success.

Lets see…. So we should have ignored the stuff on Hussein. And our intelligence on Iran is not good enough for us to jump to conclusions just yet. But we should pull out of Iraq yesterday because we’re fanning the flames of terrorism.

For the left, there is no such thing as actionable intelligence if by ”action” one means ”employ the military for its proper function”. If military force is called for, the intelligence is obviously wrong. If not, then it is obvioiusly correct.

And since the role of Islam in fomenting terrorism is not really a question for intelligence agencies to answer, the left feels it can safely duck that matter altogether.

If the report had argued that Iraq has weakened the U.S. position because we are effectively abetting an Iranian-backed Shi’ite takeover of the country, and thus aiding rather than weakening the global jihad, that would be a defensible, indeed a cogent, position. But instead, the report just seems to be noting that Iraq has become the latest pretext for jihad recruitment, and buys into the false assumption that if we just address the pretext, the jihad will end. It won’t, however. It will just find another pretext, because ultimately the jihad is not being waged because of Iraq, or Afghanistan, or Abu Ghraib, or Israel, or any other commonly-retailed pretext. It is being waged to extend Sharia over the world, in accord with imperatives spelled out in the Qur’an and other core Islamic sources.

Nils Brage Nordlander skriver i Upsala Nya Tidning att problemet med den svenska sjukvården är att den är socialistisk. Detta är ingen nyhet egentligen, men en del saker tål att upprepas. Men betyder detta att han är för en fullständig privatisering av sjukvården, eller vadå? Han är ju trots allt folkpartist.

Dr Hurd om religionsfrihet:

It’s disturbing not only to watch barbaric, uncivilized nations like Iran increasingly get away with their quest to destroy the secular values and progress of a free society (values open to any rational member of the human race); it’s likewise disturbing to witness members of our own society rationalize away personal freedoms through statements such as ”taking back our nation for Christians” or ”restoring God to society.” It makes me often wonder: if increasing numbers of Americans feel this way, then how are we to defeat the same attitude on the march from the Middle East in our directon?

Betydelsen av regeringsskiftet. Munkhammar berättar kortfattat om en del dumheter som nu inte blir av, till följd av regeringsskiftet:

– Heltidslag. Förslaget var att det företag som vill anställa måste först fråga de medarbetare som inte arbetar heltid om de vill gå upp i arbetstid. Ett kraftfullt slag mot nyanställningar, med andra ord. Särskilt illa för säsongsbetonade branscher och för unga. Detta elände blir inte av.

– Planekonomisk tandvård. Alla tandläkarbesök föreslogs betalas av staten (alltså skattebetalarna). Den enskilde skulle betala högst 200 kr för ett besök. Detta skulle skapa ökade offentliga utgifter med åtskilliga miljarder och naturligtvis försämra effektivitet och kvalitet i tandvården. Blir inte av.

Nej till minimumlöner. Svenskt näringsliv släppte igår en rapport om varför det är dåligt med höga minimumlöner. De konstaterar nämligen, otroligt nog, att det skapa arbetslöshet. Jag har inte läst själva rapporten och kan därför inte gå i god för den, men under förutsättningen för att den är vettig, är det bra att fler börjar opponera sig emot de höga minimumlönerna.

”Nytt” anförande. ”9/11-One Year Later: Why America Is Losing the War!” av Yaron Brook finns nu tillgängligt på Ayn Rand institutets hemsida. Allt som krävs för att man ska kunna ta del av anförandet är att man blir en registrerad besökare. Men det är enkelt och kostar ingenting. Även om anförandet är gammalt och det för många inte innebär så mycket nytt, kan man väl konstatera anförandets värde av det faktum att det än idag, fyra år senare, är aktuellt. En del saker tål med andra ord att upprepas. Många gånger. Om inte annat måste jag säga att den en timmes långa frågestunden efteråt är på sina håll informativ och underhållande.
